And it is home to a fabulous food scene. Lille is the capital of the Hauts-de-France region which was awarded the European Region of Gastronomy in 2023. It offers a wide choice of restaurants from welcoming Flemish estaminets serving hearty food to Michelin-starred restaurants mastering the most refined French gastronomy. If you have more of a sweet tooth, Lille also has plenty in store for you, with traditional waffles, merveilleux and cosy coffee shops and cafés.
